Tha Nooga March 30th, 2006

If anyone needs me, I’ll be with two gay guys, a crazy guy, more action figures than grains of sand on all the beaches of the world eating at a Chinese buffet, watching horrible DVDs and playing video games until my eyes fall out.

Where might a mortal man seek such wonders? Why, the Nooga, of course!

If you need me, call me on my cell phone (if you have my number) or e-mail me, if you don’t. I’ll be lugging my compy up there with me, along with my DS. I might even smoke some cigars and shoot some pool whilst i’m there.

Maybe i’ll be back Sunday. Maybe I won’t. ya never know.

Instead of packing like i should, i’ve been feverishly updating Moloth.com with a whole new Content Section, “My Atheism“. You should see the link on the navigation bar to the left of this page under “Site Content”. There, i will post my questions and arguements against all things supernatural… including religion. Feel free to comment there or, if you’d like to debate, please start one at either the Team-Liberators debate section or the Infidel Guy Forums. Just shoot me an e-mail letting me know that you’d like to debate or discuss things with me. If all you’re gonna do is bible-thump or spit the fires of damnation on me, thats fine too… just expect to get back better that what you can dish out. >:-)

In the mean time, if my current content is not enough, please feel free to check out this FAQ and this list of logical arguments. You may notice my name attached to one of the arguments on that last link. :-) My post from March 22 (below) also has a link to a few Biblical contradictions that you might find interesting…

Howard Philips March 27th, 2006

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.” -H.P. Lovecraft

As we delve further and further into the realms of quantum mechanics, 11 dimensional space, alternate universes seperated by branes of gravity, the uncertainty principle, time travel paradoxes, and the time and space bendings of Relativity we begin to see how the nature of the Universe is far beyond the kin of our minds normal ability to grasp. We have come a long way in understanding the Universe with our primative hunter-gatherer brains and have seen how the Universe operates far, far outside our common sense. Perhaps one day we will uncover a truth of the Universe that we are physically unable to comprehend… perhaps one day we WILL hit the limit of our natural minds ability to understand. Perhaps one day we will find nothing but madness out there… and when we do, will we revert back to hunting wildebeast with spears on the open plains, for that is what our brains are suited for?

This story adds a whole new depth to the saying “People who don’t want their beliefs laughed at shouldn’t have such funny beliefs.”

Libtards! March 20th, 2006

Apparently, Rex Morgan M.D. has gone insane.

Always willing to make fun of the “reality deficient”, the Liberators have set about making our OWN Rex Morgan M.D. comics

Here are some of mine:

One!

Two!

Three!

Four!

Five!

AlwaysSummer Days… the prequel. March 20th, 2006

Well, after playing the bland and sophmoric “Dungeons & Dragons Online” (using a 10-day Buddy Code), I despair about about the current state of electronic D&D. The game feels unfinished and uncared for. If I were Kieth Baker (the creator of Eberron, the world in which DDO takes place), I would shove my boot so far up Turbine’s ass they would have to open their mouths so i could clip my toe-nails. As a creator of worlds myself, i would be mortified by the lackluster and primative attempt to translate my world into a MMO that Turbine pathetically released unto the gaming community.

As I’ve said, the game feels unfinished. The UI is ugly and non-intuitive, the graphics engine is primative and resource hungry, the translation of D&D into a videogame (which, rules-wise, SHOULD be very easy) has been injected with a dose of retardation to the point it doesn’t even feel like playing D&D. The game is unpolished and unloved by its creators. In a world where we have WoW, which, despite its minor flaws and immature community, is a VERY solid and detailed game, why would want to go back 4 or 5 years and play EQ1? All the advancement of modern MMO’s has been lost on DDO in almost all respects. The closest analogy to DDO is Guild Wars… which, i admit, i have yet to play. The concept of Guild Wars (nothing but instanced dungeons for you and your party) has never sat well with me. I LIKE the concept of instances when called for, but to make them almost 100% of the total content for a game robs you of some of the MMO strengths: exploration and community.

Once you’ve played a GOOD MMO like WoW, why would you want to play a game that feels 4-5 years old? DDO is so lacking in polish and detail that its embaressing. When you run through Stormreach, objects, walls and people pop and fade into view. When you rotate your characters facing, they simply spin… like a revolving door. No life or animation. And the emotes.. oh gawd.. the emotes. the ‘dances’ the characters are capable of make me question both the sanity and sexual preference of the game developers. Nothing in the game has flavor or depth. 30 years of D&D history, culture and lore… all wasted on this game.

But, NWN2 is on the horizon. Surely, it will be the D&D game that COULD be, that SHOULD be!

No Gods in Azeroth March 18th, 2006

Finally… some GOOD NEWS!
From the article:

But what, exactly, do atheists believe in, if not in God?

In a nutshell, atheists believe in reason alone, in those things that can be arrived at through intellect and the scientific method. Concrete evidence for God, they argue, simply doesn’t exist. They don’t cotton to leaps of faith or anything that involves a supernatural being reaching into human lives. They believe you can live a happy, respectable life based on human ethics that were derived not from God handing down a tablet but from a code of rules that emerged naturally through an evolutionary process in which humans learned how to live together successfully.

Ugh. i had the displeasure of running past a Gnome from the guild “Christian Crusaders” in Stormwind (in the World of WarCraft MMORPG) a few days ago. Not wanting to even THINK about debating someone in my leasure-time activity of playing a video game, i simpy smirked to myself and ran on buy. Unfortunetaly, “Angelazeroth” decided to invite me into her guild. Here is an e-mail i sent a to a friend of mine about the experience:

actually, it was “Christian Crusaders’ or some such nonsense.
i was running thru SW and saw “Angelazeroth” (a gnome) with the guild tag… i simply smirked and kept running to the AH. she PMed me asking to join. i said “lol… no thanks, i don;t believe in magic in RL.” to which she replied, “well, neither did i until i read this one book! ….”
i asked her how she based her entire belief system on a single book, etc..

ugh.. it was brutal. all she could do was keep saying “just read this website or this book or this former atheist said…”
she said that atheists don;t exist because to say that God doesn;t exist, one would need perfect knowledge.
i then asked her if she believed in the Flying Spaghetti Monster.. after all, she can’t DISprove it, therefore it MUST exist…
i explained that claiming that there IS a God (and HER exact God to be precise) is a positive claim. it is not MY job to DISprove it, but rather, HER job TO prove it. >_< she even quoted "Dr." Kent Hovind... the biggest dumbass Creationist ever...

i swear.. i can't deal with that sort of idiocy. ESPECIALLY in my freaking video game that i play to GET AWAY from that BS...

Brian fussed at me for debating her... "dude, you're not going to change her mind"...
yeah, but it is MY duty as a skeptic and a reasonable person to let her know that her cult is in the minority and that it has very valid and glaring flaws.. and that not everyone simply accepts her delusions as being true. silence can imply acceptance or tolerance. i have neither for that baseless drivel.

I saw a few of their memebers a few days later and realized what bothered me about their guild name so much.
“Christian Crusaders” is basically the same as “Islam Jihadists”. I petitioned a GM about the name of their guild, which is obviously against the EULA/ToU about using real world religions, politicians, etc… as an in-game name, and lo and behold, it has been changed… to “Angels of Azeroth”.

In the fantasy world and universe of the World of Warcraft, there are no TRUE Deities… just very powerful entities such as Titans ands Demons. The Light is simply a magical manifestation of the concept. Last i checked, neither Thrall nor Medivh consulted or prayed to Jesus when going into battle…

If you’ve never been to Snopes.com, i’d highly recommend it. Its a wonderful resource to combat those bloody stupid e-mails that seem to get passed around that make outrageous claims, inflammatory comments or general propaganda and lies.

But, occasionally, something true is sent around.. something like THIS:

On Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at a hearing on the proposed Constitutional Amendment to prohibit gay marriage, Jamie Raskin, professor of law at AU, was requested to testify.

At the end of his testimony, Republican Senator Nancy Jacobs said: “Mr. Raskin, my Bible says marriage is only between a man and a woman. What do you have to say about that?”

Raskin replied: “Senator, when you took your oath of office, you placed your hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution. You did not place your hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible.”

The room erupted into applause.
