Bullshitty.
I wonder if the console version will be broken as well.

yeah, you'll have to take your receipt back to the store of purchase every week, or they'll come to your house and take back the disc.

i bet you're right.
the entire gaming community is of two minds over this:
1. i really, really wanted SPORE... but, meh. i'm not going to support this kind of DRM, so i will not be buying or playing it.
2. lulz, hax. myne nao! 4 free! kthnxbai!
either way, EA is fucking themselves over like the greedy, arrogant idiots they are. they're going to ruin a wonderful game.

We wanted to let you know that we've been hearing your concerns about the online authentication mentioned earlier this week. I didn't want to head into the weekend without getting back to you with some information about how Spore is planning on using this new system.
A few things we wanted you to know:
— We authenticate your game online when you install and launch it the first time.
— We'll re-authenticate when a player uses online features, downloads new content or a patch for their game.
— The new system means you don't have to play with the disc in your computer. And if you are like me, always losing discs, this will be a huge benefit.
— You'll still be able to install and play on multiple computers.
— You can play offline.
We do hope that players will play online - sharing creatures, buildings and vehicles with other players is something that is unique to Spore and one of the coolest features of the game. Every day, when I play the Creature Stage, I get to see wacky and awesome new creatures from my Buddies on the team coming over the hill at me and I can't wait to see what happens when our creative, passionate community starts sharing their creations.

Once again, the extremists of a group make the entire group look bad. Militant Atheists are criticizing the religious aspects of spore..which seem to consist entirely of "Well, your civilization can develop one." Oooh. scary.

With its whole premise of a single-celled organism evolving into a creature and then a civilization, you'd think religious groups might be offended by the upcoming Spore. But according to the game's creator, Will Wright, it's just the opposite. It seems that the only religious groups voicing concerns are atheists who are concerned about the inclusion of religion in the game at all (Spore's civilizations can eventually develop religion in their culture). Will Wright spoke about this surprising phenomenon in an interview with EuroGamer:
"I think our bigger fear was that we didn't want to offend any religious people; but looking at the discussion that unfolded from this thing, what we had was a good, sizable group of players that we might call militant atheists, and the rest of the players seemed very tolerant, including all of the religious players."
Wright explained how the development team made an effort to treat the religious aspect of the game with respect. They were careful not to fall definitively on one side or the other:
"We didn't want to go too far down that path: We leave the whole creation of the universe question open. Obviously as the player you're coming in and playing something like a god, directing the evolution of a species, but we never really state who you the player are."
I'd say if you're making a game about building a civilization, it would be a pretty big oversight to not include religion in some way. Every civilization in history has been influenced by religion in some form or another.

Spiteful nerds attack!
Seriously though, whats up with all these mediocre reviews? is it a case of the game being overhyped for too long, or is it really not that impressive to play?
