People with dementia should have the right to die if they feel they are a burden on others:

Agreed if you can catch them in a lucid moment. If this right were available now, I'd have it in a living will in a heartbeat. I'll most likely be crazy as a shit house rat in twenty years.

Barnoness Warnock said many people with dementia became unable to swallow,
wow, that WOULD fuck you up, Cin.
but, seriously... the Baroness has a very salient point. its a shame that the knee-jerk 'ickiness' of the idea has gotten small-minded and selfish people like Rebecca Wood saying shit like "People with dementia can live quite comfortably when cared for properly."... "properly" being waited on, hand and foot, every minute of every day. it gets to the point where it is like dealing with an infant the size of an adult.
if i become fully incapacitated due to ANY disease, i would HOPE that the people in my life would care about me enough, and be unselfish enough, to give me freedom from my suffering.

The world would stop spinning.

"Put down" has negative connotations, but is an apt description. I wish fervently that I had been able to do that for my father as he struggled to breathe his last. It was awful to watch. I wouldn't want my children to go through that.
Edit: Oh wait!! FIRST!!
