Dear god, I fell into what could have been a trap...thank god I read before I open my mouth...(sometimes)

So the true observations are important foundations of both basic science and social policy, if you do care about solving social problems, which of course I don’t.

The fact that he didn't care disturbed me, but I didn't take into context that he was a scientist and more interested in a bigger picture than the smaller, which of course is society.  I actually care about solving social problems, using the same approach towards science.  But alas, what can I do but discuss it, pass the discussion along and hopefully change one person's mind....

Which brings me to my next point.  I had a conversation with my mum the other day, discussing marriage and the evolution of it.  We were taking into account that my dad is separating from his wife but is not getting a divorce and will see other people.  My mom found that offensive, immoral.  I had tried to tell her that marriage evolved from a merging of property to the new love soaked, noble commitment she has in her mind.  I tried to make her see that it really doesn't matter what she feels is right or wrong because there is no right or wrong.  Therefore she shouldn't stress about it and affect her blood pressure as she does when she bitches about stuff.  I doubt I changed her mind then, but I definitely presented a small doubt in her head, a different point of view she should consider before saying something, or thinking too deeply O.o

Anyhoo...that's all i was thinking as I read it....I never realized what those arguments are called but it's good to learn some new things....
