Re: Dragon Age: Origins

Yeah....I wish I had more time this weekend to play for a long time....having gotten it on saturday night after I worked a shift and had been sick all week left this sunday all about sleep and cleaning the house...but for the four levels I've gotten, it's just amazing!

The graphics are so beautiful and the RP sequences seem like a movie rather than playing a game.  The talent trees are pretty good imo, simple but still powerful. As far as I can tell, you have different starting stories depending on gender, race, and class.... There are dwarves, humans, and elves.  then rogue, warriors and  mages.  THEN you choose your background, say you want to play an elf, you can pick dalish or noble...dalish live in the forests so you start there and nobles live in the cities.....I picked a female noble elf *spoiler coming* and basically you start out on your wedding day and it gets crashed by the human arl of your alienage (the only place in the city where elves are allowed to live, since elves are second class citizens) and your best friend gets raped after the arl kidnaps you and a few of the other chicks....yeah.....then you get recruited to fight the horde...yeah...it's serious nuts so far...

and the character generator is awesome...i spent a good while on there making a elf face I liked....tattoos, hair color, make up and stuff
was too much fun to play with.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

Ha you made an Elf

Elves are like every oppressed minority ever in Dragon Age

Jews+Blacks+Indians+Mexicans=Elves.

FYI there are only 6 different starting stories (Origins).  So while not quite the, one for every gender, race, class, but more than enough to cover their bases and get you started.

I've played a fair bit of the game and I love it.  The difficulty is tough, and there can be situations that you aren't prepared for that end up raping your face off, but if you have a solid mix of party members and skills you can pull your way through some pretty deep holes.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

lawl.....I had to think about the starting stories...it's based on the background that you choose, but you can only choose certain ones depending on your race and class, (dwarves can't be a mages so they can't do the magi starting line, I think) I dunno..I'm so engrossed in my story I haven't tried anything else....*sigh* maybe next weekend, i can play for a good bit....

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

Finished all the Origins and here is how I rank them

Human Noble - Dwarf Noble - Dwarf Commoner  - City Elf  - Mage - Dalish Elf

Origin's of the Noble castes feel more engrossing with intrigue and political power plays.
Dwarf Commoner is sad, redeeming, heroic and amazing
City Elf has a nice emotion spin on it, with a pinch of revenge
The Mage opening is great, but the second half of the tale falls a bit flat in my eyes.
Dalish Elf didn't connect with me at all.  Maybe it's because I'm not a minority but it just didn't feel all that special.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

1st play through done, clocked in at 67 hours and I want more!

Started up another run with a my Mage and thinking about upping the difficulty.  Really looking forward for their future DLC's and modder content.

RPG of the decade, and hopefully birth of a franchise

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

Holy shit you put in 67 hours in two weeks? It took me the better part of a 6 months to do that in Fallout 3.

I cant wait to get this game. Well, actually I can, as I am waiting, but I am looking forward to it greatly!

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

It's easy to do 67 hours in 2 weeks by following this simple rule: 8 hours for sleeping, X hours for work, all other time is spent on games. wink

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

Dragon Age is also just one of those games that sucks you in.  You want to see what course your actions will take, and witness the worlds events as they unfold.

It's like a book you don't want to stop reading.  A slow burn but you'll love all of it.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

I've started out. Like all BioWare games, it's been slow to draw me in. I have confidence that it will though.

I created a female dwarf warrior named Copra. She dreams of one day having a daughter named Bal.

Edit: Derp, misspelled my own characters name, -_-;

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

Someone at BioWare REALLY needs to learn how to prevent polygon clipping. The amount of clipping errors in DA:O is unforgivable in this day and age.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

Completed a few more Origins today. Human noble rogue, Faijyn'a the elf mage, and Rocor Stoneglans, the dwarf warrior noble. All three of them have much more interesting stories than dwarf commoner. Im starting to get into the groove and enjoy the game now, but the graphics really seem a lot worse than those in Mass Effect. hmm

Because you are playing a gimped version.

The PC has the definitive version of the game

P.S. “Return to Ostagar" is coming out January 5th

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

Does not compute! Mass Effect looked great. BioWare is clearly capable of producing acceptable graphics. So why did they fill DA:O with muddy textures and PS1 era clipping problems?

Re: Dragon Age: Origins

More Dragon Age stuff coming down the pipe.  I really like the sound of Awakening, but hate the sound of $39.99

Not too long ago word of a new retail expansion to enhance BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins hit the net and today the veteran RPG developer confirmed its existence and informed the masses that it will be available for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and PC worldwide on March 16, 2010.

Here’s the description:

Designed and written by the same team that brought you Dragon Age: Origins, the Awakening expansion pack offers a brand new area of the world to explore known as Amaranthine, featuring an epic story that will allow players to unravel the secrets of the darkspawn – and their true motivations! Players will face a range of horrific and terrifying creatures including an evolved, intelligent breed of darkspawn and other menacing creatures such as the Inferno Golem and Spectral Dragon. Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening provides exciting new ways for players to customize their heroes and party, including the ability to re-spec their character attributes, allowing even greater customization and replayability. Featuring an increased level cap, new spells, abilities, specializations and items, plus five all-new party members, players can continue their adventures from Dragon Age, or begin with a brand new party.

“Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening shows BioWare’s commitment to our fans by delivering new story-driven experiences which enrich the dark heroic fantasy universe our fans have come to know and love,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group, EA, and Co-Founder, BioWare. “The vibrant worldwide community of Dragon Age fans will relish uncovering the secret motivations of the darkspawn, revealing how the darkspawn continue to infest the world despite the defeat of the Archdemon.”

Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening, BioWare’s next thread in the Dragon Age: Origins tapestry, occurs following the events of Dragon Age: Origins and puts players into the role of a Grey Warden Commander entrusted with rebuilding the order of Grey Wardens. In addition to rebuilding the ranks of the Grey Wardens, you will be tasked with uncovering the mystery of how the darkspawn survive after the slaying of the Archdemon dragon. How players choose to rebuild their order, resolve the conflict with the mysterious “Architect,” and determine the fate of the darkspawn are just some of the many intriguing moral choices that will shape each player’s heroic journey. Players will be able to import their character from Dragon Age: Origins or start out as a new Grey Warden from the neighboring land of Orlais.

Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening will be released March 16, 2010 worldwide on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 console and PC. Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening will be available for $39.99 on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles in North America and will require Dragon Age: Origins to play. Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening is rated M by the ESRB and 18+ by PEGI.

On a related note, those of you looking to dive into this week’s release of the Return to Ostagar DLC will have to hold off just a little bit. As Joystiq points out, the second piece of downloadable content for the game is on hold until further notice. We’ll keep you posted as more details emerge.
