Re: Avatar

Avatar has not only lived up to the hype, it has exceeded it. It MUST be seen, and in 3D if it's available in your area.

Also, check out http://www.pandorapedia.com for detailed sourcebook-like info on various species and tech in the movie.

Re: Avatar

I saw it today in IMAX 3D and I'm not sure if the fog I had afterwords was a 3D glasses headache, a hunger headache (hadn't eaten in 14 hours), blinded by the rapid movement from 3 hours of darkness into sun light, or if I was just still trying to absorb it all, but I enjoyed myself the entire time.

When I saw Transformers 2 I checked my watch at least a dozen times asking myself "When will this fucking abomination end?" but in the entire 2 hour 40 minute run of Avatar I never even thought about what time it was or how close to the end I am.

Re: Avatar

I just saw an interview with Sigourney Weaver on John Stewart.  She explained how the movie was filmed with the actors in a bike helmet with a camera pointed at their face.  I am intrigued.

Re: Avatar

There has been a sad moment of realization here at the Sparks HQ.  While I suspected it from the start I have just found out beyond a shadow of doubt that what I saw was no IMAX but in fact LieMAX.

For me this fix this I will be driving 50 minutes to a true IMAX theater to hopefully be once again blown away by this breath taking film.

Re: Avatar

There are some theaters that, I dunno, purchase the imax naming rights or something, and claim that a slightly larger screen is imax when it really isnt. Theres a theater in Knoxville that does it. The screen we saw RotF on in Nashville was genuine.

Re: Avatar

Re: Avatar

80 ft tall and something stupid wide.....you can tell....ya know...unless you are blind... O.o I heard that some theaters claim "imax" but instead, they're just a foot or so taller than normal movie screens.

Re: Avatar

Finally got to see Avatar.  Loved it.

And yes, there are lots of lieMAXes around.  There are a couple of sites and even Google Earth map overlays devoted to separating the real ones from the fake ones.  The easiest way I have found is that if you see an IMAX that popped up over the last year or so, it is probably fake.  I had been to a couple around here before about 6 more popped up in the last year.  Sure enough, every last one of those was simply a normal sized theater with a digital projector.  That sucks SO bad.  None of the real IMAXes around me were showing it, so I did get to see it in 3d digital, just not on a 6 story tall screen.  I am ok with that.

Amazing film though.  They did a great job on that.

Without condoning... or condemning. I understand.

Re: Avatar

A standard IMAX screen is 22 metres (72 ft) wide and 16.1 metres (53 ft) high, but can vary. The world's largest cinema screen and IMAX screen is in the LG IMAX theatre in Darling Harbour, Sydney

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imax_Theater

Maybe you got the smallest one? anyhoo, check your grammar before you post something...it's starting to get annoying.

Re: Avatar

There are some grammar mistakes, I can see past.  But almost every post Sparks made in this thread, compelled me to read it twice, three times to understand what he was trying to say.  That's just bad communication

For me this fix this I will be driving 50 minutes to a true IMAX theater to hopefully be once again blown away by this breath taking film.

Are you incorrect Ma'am

It's just frustrating for me to read. That's all I'm saying.

Huh. Oddly enough I totally missed both of those. I thought you were talking about comma splices or something similarly trivial. Those sentences actually are confusingly worded. o_O;

No, I just think faster than I can type and that leads some weirdness at times.
