Now that my car is paid off, I feel that I comfortably can afford to pay for smartphone service. Hurray!
Since my phone is on my parents plan, it'll be on Sprint. I know that some of you hate Sprint, but I've been with them for eight years and have always had a good experience with both service and quality of phones.
For a while I've pretty much had my mind set on getting a Palm Pre. It has a had a lot of positive press, and has a lot of the features I'm looking for. However, after playing around with one at the Sprint store yesterday, I found it's interface to be somewhat confusing to navigate.
So, I messed around with some other phones and the one that really caught my attention was the HTC Hero. I wish it had a physical keyboard, but the touch screen interface just made a lot more sense to me. It also looks like it offers a lot more ways to customize it's interface than other phones. Plus, I've read a lot of good things about it (and Android) around the web.
So, any thoughts on the HTC Hero for Sprint or Android in general?

If it's between Android and the Pre, I'd go with Android. I'm hoping to pick up a Nexus One myself soon. Never been thrilled with HTC hardware though.
And after using the iPhone, I don't miss a physical keyboard at all. In fact I can type faster and more comfortably on a virtual keyboard. Plus the slide-out keyboards just add bulk to the phone, in my opinion.

I dont really mind the bulk personally; I think it makes the phone easier to hold.
So what do you mean about not being thrilled with HTC hardware? Fragile? underspecced?

Just wasn't impressed with the build quality. Of course, the last HTC phone I really used was the Excalubur (T-Mobile Dash). The battery cover didn't seat well and was always falling off. The Micro SD slot was under the battery which was a pain.

If all... If all goes as planned, I'll be getting a hero tonight.
I eagerly await customizing the fuck out of it.

I has it and it's wonderful. I've already learned so much about what it can do and I feel like I've only scratched the surface.

Ok, discovered something I don't like. It has a very weak vibrate.
When it's in the case on my belt I can only barely feel it. I think the case might be absorbing a lot of the vibration, so maybe a different model would help. As often as i have to keep my phone silent, this is a big disappointment.
The strange thing is that from the forum posts I've found on the matter some people agree that it's too weak, while a bunch of others complain about it being too strong. ?_?

Also, get used to checking your phone every 5 minutes, like an OCD technophile.
so, with this new phone, does it mean we can txt you more? txt you pics, as well?

Indeed it does! Send away!
As far as phone addiction goes, until I get a better feel on battery life, I'm trying to be frugal with phone usage. It's 1:00 now and I'm at 84%. Theres sooooo many things to turn on and off to improve battery life that it's going to take me a bit of time to hit that sweet spot.
Ive already found a bunch of apps that I know I'm going to use the hell out of. Theres a lovely one for Photobucket that lets me take a picture with the phone and auto upload it to my account.

Really wanting an Android phone. I'm on Verizon and eligible for an upgrade.
I've been waiting on the Nexus One to come out, and the rumors indicate it might be as early as March 23. However with Apple suing HTC right now that may bring new releases to a halt, at least temporarily.
I can get a Moto Droid for $150, but I'm not crazy about a physical keyboard. The Droid Eris is only $30, but I've read it's slower and runs an older version of Android.

I know someone at work with a Moto Droid and he can't stand the keyboard on it.
The love I have for my phone increases. Although that might be primarily because of Robo Defense.
Tower Defense games own me. XD

Ugh, I've been waiting so long I've almost lost interest in a new phone. I still really want a Nexus One on Verizon, but there's been absolutely no indication of when it might be coming out.
Meanwhile, the HTC Incredible has a supposed release date of April 29, available in Best Buy stores. Maybe I'll pick one of those up instead. WHY DOESN'T GOOGLE WANT MY MONEY.
Edit: On the other hand, a newly released story points to Monday as a Nexus One release date.

Well the Droid Incredible by HTC will indeed be released April 29. My upgrade price is $149. I still kind of want to wait and see about the Nexus One, but damn if the Incredible doesn't look nice and have a better camera. Maybe I should just get it.
