tl;dr version: I bought a toy.
I went to Gateway Antique Mall yesterday hoping to find some Farscape figures. (Farscape is awesome.) I did find some up in the display cases up front, but they were priced a little high, so I walked around the place a bit to decide.
Back in the booths (which are usually filled with furniture and old metal Pepsi signs), I found this... mecca of 80s and 90s toys. Mixed in among the crappy Batman and Warriors of Virtue toys, they had all kinds of interesting toys that you don't see very often! They had a in the box Thundercats vehicle, a MOC Super Friends Firestorm, carded James Bond Jr. toys.
And then I saw it.
Hanging there, next to a peg of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves toys, was a diamond in the rough. It was an unopened, Transformers Micromaster Hot Rod Patrol. An unopened, twenty-one year old, honest to Zeus, Generation 1 Transformer toy for TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS.
Amongst Transformer fans, a fairly common dream is to be shopping in a store and finding either non-existent toys or Generation 1 toys still on the shelf. I've had them a lot. So, when I say that seeing these toys just hanging there was like a dream come true, I mean that in a literal way.
Of course I would have been happy to find ANY G1 toys like that, but it just so happened that what I found was actually pretty good too! For starters, I don't have any of those toys already, so I get to add something new to my collection! Secondly, they Hot Rod Patrol has in it one of the few Micromaster characters that anyone actually gives a damn about - Big Daddy.
Yes, he is a Transformer and his name is Big Daddy. It's a stupid name, but it actually worked in his favor because it game him something that most Micromasters never got - a personality. Put simply, Big Daddy is essentially The Fonz from Happy Days. And that makes him awesome. Ayyyyy!

LOL, that's awesome. Congrats. I used to love that place. They always had a nice figure selection. But I thought they tore it down or something to build a CostCo?

Nope, Gateway is still there. CostCo is going to essentially be next door to that, on the freeway side (albeit a little farther back from Cloud Springs Rd.).

Botcon was awesome this year. The next 12 months of toys are going to be almost nothing but fanservice.
Also, Scott McNeill (the voice of Waspinator, Rattrap, Dinobot, and Silverbolt) sung karoke with the fans. (Stan Bush did too, but he's not in this clip)
