Re: Nintendo 3DS

Bigger top screen, capable of displaying 3D graphics without needing special glasses.

I'm unclear yet on how it works, but I think it's some type of stereoscopic image with the left and right camera angles superimposed on top of each other. They say it's similar to those stereogram images where you relax your eyes to see a picture.

The screen on the bottom is a touch screen like the DS, and they've added an analog control stick as well. Also new is a gyroscope and motion sensor, and dual cameras for taking 3D pictures. It also says it supports watching 3D Hollywood movies, whatever that means.

They'ev also announced a host of titles coming to the 3DS, and it's a pretty impressive lineup. Kid Icarus, Ocarina of Time, Starfox, Pilotwings, Sonic, Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon, Saint's Row, Metal Gear Solid, and a lot more.

To me it finally seems like a worthy successor to the DS Lite. The DSi was a bit of a snooze from what I saw of it, and to me the DS Lite is such a perfect system that it's going to be hard to top. This may do it though.

I mean I still play a lot of games on my DS Lite. Hardware wise it can't be beat, except for the faulty shoulder buttons I guess. It feels solid and comfortable in my hand, the screens are extremely bright and clear, and it still gets crazy good battery life after I don't know how many times I've cycled it.

Of course having an R4 and an EZ-Flash really helps. Being able to carry around all the games you want on a micro-SD card, as well as play NES/SNES/Genesis/MAME titles on emulators makes it so versatile. I just love the hell out of the whole thing.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

I want one more than anything in the world. That I can't get one until probably late 2012 is heartbreaking.

From what I understand, the screen works on a principle somehow similar to lenticular motion images. By being able to watch hollywood movies on it, I assume that means they plan to make 3D versions of the Avatar movie available for purchase or download.

Oh, and it has vastly increased horsepower. People are saying that it can do close to Gamecube level graphics.

There's like 76(!) announced games for it right now (with shit I'm excited about in bold).

Re: Nintendo 3DS

I love it that all the gaming media can't even put the 3DS into words.

"it's impossible to describe without actually holding it."

That tells you just how awesome it is.

Any word on when this will be out in Japan?  In the US?  I assume late 2012 is a reference to having planned out your financials till 2012, not when the 3DS actually comes out?

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Hey, it's the end of the fiscal year! That means I can buy one now!

*quick montage of insane driving and quick checkout at Gamestop*

It's amazing. You think the 3D effect isnt important until you turn it off, play for awhile, then turn it back on. The only way I can think to describe it is as the difference between Mono and 5.1 Surround sound. It's just a more... complete experience.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

I fully intend to get a 3DS, but I don't like the launch line up, so I'll just sit on it for a bit.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrridge Racer is fantastic. Street Fighter is good too, but I'm debating if I should trade it in for Lego Star Wars. Fighting games have been leaving me kind of bored in general recently.
