My co-workers, America, and Jesus.

An email I received at work from some bone headed coworkers:

Now this is customer service!

How ALL phones SHOULD be answered!

GOOD MORNING, WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA , a Christian nation of the free and the home of the brave.

How may I help you?

Press '1' for English.

Press '2' to disconnect until you learn to speak English

And remember only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ

And the American Soldier.

One died for your soul,

The other for your freedom.

If you agree. Keep it going

Now, typically the girl who sends this crap around, sends one stupid thing every few weeks. I brush them off, don't respond and let her wallow in her own ignorance. This actually got me incensed. I replied, well what about those that serve in the military who don't believe in the Christian faith, or the immigrants who've come here that don't believe that same as you? should they leave?

This started a fire storm with her saying "I DIDN’T FORWARD THIS TO OFFEND ANYONE OR STEP ON ANYBODYS TOES.
BUT AMERICA IS A CHRISTIAN NATION LIKE IT OR NOT"

Other Christians in the workplace agreed with me and said something and then I started saying something along the lines of "Lets become a theocracy like Iran and execute those who don't believe in the one true faith".  The supervisor had to come over and tell us not to continue this argument but it was too late...we were pissed at each other....we're cool now but that was a tough day of me trying not to punch some 'ignant' assholes in the face.

Now the reason why this hit me personally was the fact that she was talking about American Soldiers and how they died for you like Jesus, an imaginary friend of hers. On top of that, she was spouting that non-English speakers should get the hell out because they haven't earned what our soldiers died for.

My grandfather is Mexican-American, born in New Mexico to a Mexican immigrant woman. He spoke Spanish for the first 15 or so years of his life because my great grandmother never learned English well enough.  My grandfather speaks English well now, knows his Spanish and learned some French from his French wife, my grandmother.

HE SERVED IN VIETNAM IN THE UNITED STATES FUCKING ARMY.  This email made me so angry because my grandfather who didn't speak English for a long time served his country in a war that was never supported by the public. He earned two bronze stars that he's reluctant to talk about. He can barely speak about the time he served in Vietnam without choking up or blanking out.  HOw dare anyone assume that if you can't speak English, you're not an American?  What about my dad who spoke French growing up, had dual French and US citizenship for a time, served 24 years in the Air Force because he has pride in this nation that is so open and free and for the respect of his father who served his country.  My brother is probably going to be shipped out this fall, possibly missing David and my wedding, to serve his country.  And if you asked him what he has faith in, he'd tell you "I dunno."

We had to have a meeting about inappropriate emails and how to come talk to HR about such and such and don't bring up religion, politics and stuff....we've been working together for about 8 months now and it finally was brought up.  I don't know what I'm trying to say about this other than I was hurt that people can be so ignorant when they pass around emails.  I'd burn that part of the interwebs if I could figure out how.
