Yeah, can't wait for this. Shame it is only 6 episodes though. Shot in Atlanta, GA I do believe. I might have to read The Walking Dead Compendium Volume 1 to catch up. Amazon used to have this 1000 page behemoth for like $40. Sucks I missed that.

The 6 episodes are good and bad. Bad because its 6 episodes, but good because we at least know the story has a firm grasp of of its ending.
I've seen way too many series lose themselves because they forgot how they needed to end.

So I bought the 1st 2 trades of Walking Dead, and just finished reading the 1st and I'm shaking a little bit.
I've never been a fan of horror, but in a movie at least when I scene happens it continues independently of your watching/listening to it. Reading Horror is so much more frightening because even when I want to just brace for impact and look away I have to continue reading because if I don't the moment will never pass.
As for the story is has a very Y The Last Man sort of feel to it, only with more ever looming death.

Yeah, I am hoping to get the large 1000 page beast when they start reprinting it tomorrow (supposedly). Based on what you have read of your two trades, worth buying?

Oh Yes, I easily see myself walking into Borders again on Friday and dropping 140$ish on picking up Vol.s 3-12 (Vol 13 doesn't come out till Nov 10)
Which I am slight miffed at since its an entirely black and white book. If you aren't paying for a colorist then why is your book the same price as books that do?

Yeah, that's a lot of money. The first 48 or 49 issues collected in the version I was after was going for $40 on Amazon until it was abruptly pulled off. They were supposed to run another printing of that, so keep your fingers crossed for the $40 one to come back.
And the second season was picked up today and will be 13 episodes or so. Cheers!

Well I've done it, I've read 7+ years of a mans work in less than a week.... and now I have to wait for the slow crawl like everyone else.
It really is like Y the Last Man with zombies, it digs deep into exploring the depth of humanity vs survival and allows to tension and horror to draw out on the blade endlessly. Though now I worry about the show because where the book has all the time it wants, episodes only run so long, but if anyone can pull it off its AMC.
P.S. We won't have a book themed forum on here do we?
P.P.S. Carl is AWESOME

Some fan made opening credits. Very well done.

And the trade paperback I finally found of the first 48 issues, probably first printing.

Amazon put it back up after a while, but this one may be second printing.

Those Opening Credits are cool but I think they go against the whole vibe of the series to the honest. It's a lot of 3D comic panels and poppy music when The Walking Dead is all about the basest element of life, survival.
I also think that while Frank Darabont loves the comic series, and that the show will hit all the points in the comic, he has said that there will be things in the show that aren't in the comic. So that devoted readers won't know every beat of the story and will still be surprised.
As for Hulu, don't count it. Nothing from AMC is on there, none of their hits anyway.

Well I'll be damned

Really? That's surprising considering they went out of their way to make it seem like I never existed.
But on topic, let me know what you think after watching it.

Enjoyed the first episode. A little slow, but they have to set the stage. Matched the first couple pages of the comic pretty well. The changes have actually been nice touches to far (e.g., the writing on the cafeteria door). Shame we only get 6 episodes, but maybe next season's 13 will be a nice helping.

I was personally a little underwhelmed with some of the stuff they added (like the guy having to snipe his wife, and I know it was in the trailer but I was hoping it was just an unfinished effect. Seriously, no one took the other way on the highway?).
Also thought it was a bit too slow but I'll let that slide in terms of setup. Looking forward to see they handle the other characters.

Yeah, the guy and his zombie thing went on a little too long for me. And I can't get that guy our of the character he played in Jericho.

-sigh- I have some major issues with episode 2, namely plot holes and some really wonky character development
1st scene before the title card even Lori and Shane sneak off to have some sex in the forest... in the middle of a zombie apocalypse... and they nearly completely disrobe. That's survivalist thinking at its best folks.
Just after the title card we have Rick still in the tank and a nice establishing shot showing zombies swarming on the tank, we cut inside with Rick talking to Glenn "They are busy eating your horse, make a run for it." We go back to an outside shot and the zombies are fucking gone.. WHAT?!?!
I hate the woman playing Andrea, she annoyed me the entire episode and I really doubt she has the acting chops to step up to the role, but we will see. Glenn isn't bad though.

I have to say folks, the use of downtown Atlanta as a central location nailed it for me before I even started watching. They did their homework too. There are only a few shots (riding in from East I-20, walking into downtown from the West) that caught my notice, but I'm by far the exception when it comes to sense of direction and knowledge of downtown. They picked the right shots. There are 6 places I could name off my head to use in an apocalyptic downtown from ATL and they used all of them, even the ones you don't know about unless you're homeless (or me). They also happen to be camping at the rock quarry that I personally picked as my ideal location for my friends Post Apocalypse LARP. They didn't agree... and now I feel totally vindicated.

I'm constantly enticed, apprehensive, furious, relieved, and proud of the human race (in that order) during every episode. There always seems to be some stereotypical overdone scene and you just *know* what's going to happen... then it doesn't. In great ways. Love it.

Alright so while I figured as much after episode 5 it was confirmed in episode 6
Spoiler (highlight to view):
The 1st volume of the comic ends with them leaving the campsite Rick and Shane arguing out in the woods about leaving and where to go. Shane turns violent towards Rick when Carl appears from the bushes and shoots and kills Shane. Not only was this a moment that made me say damn aloud, it is easily one of my favorite moments in the entire series and for whatever it didn't happen.
Sure it may happen sometime in season 2, it may not. Personally I think they can't find a child actor that could do (Carl's hardly said anything in the series so far). To me Carl killing Shane was a flagship moment for Walking Dead, thanks for skipping it Frank.
Sure the CDC think was kind of cool (if not rushed all to hell) but I expected better.
And haha, stupid redneck characters killed off.
