Twin Peaks

FINALLY finished watching the gold box DVD set of this show.  I was always interested in this show, but since it came out in the 90s and there had only been botched attempts to get a set including the pilot for a couple years (laserdisc, VHS, DVD), I never could get my hands on it.  When the gold box version came out with the pilot, I grabbed it.

The first "season" was something like seven episodes and had David Lynch's strange sense of style, plot, editting, and cinematography, in a tightly wound arc bundle.  Season two seemed to stretch on FOREVER and we had a very hard time working our way through that.  Ugh.  And of course, after the final episode, I can go, WTF.

I remember seeing the movie a while back (before seeing the TV show, it was advertised as a prequel at the time, so I thought that would be ok), and got a serious WTF out of that too.  Now that I have seen the show, I simply recognize some of the stuff in the movie, but it was an even more WTF then the TV show.

I suggest that anyone with NetFlix to check out the TV show on streaming for free.  The movie is also available on DVD via NetFlix.  And the following resources will help you figure everything out when you are done.  Best of luck.

You can hit the Wikis for overviews.

You can hit IMDB for Trivia and other little tidbits.

Click on the TV Episodes link for some great stuff, then FWWM for some movie stuff, then General if you still want to read a little more.

We watched the Psych episode Dual Spires from Season 5 (NetFlix streaming) last night and it was a cute homage episode.  Hard to believe how poorly everyone has aged.  It was like one of those "dammmnnnnnn ..." moments.

I am going to watch the movie again this weekend, and probably the international pilot, and some of the TV show box set special features, then I am done.  There was seriously a lot of shit going on in this show.

Re: Twin Peaks

I remember it being a pretty big deal in the 90's... It certainly had people talking about it. like all good, interesting stuff, it had some people saying "i dont get it, too weird for me!".

Re: Twin Peaks

Probably one of my most favorite TV shows ever. It did seem to lose focus a bit early into the second season when the murder is solved. But it's still fantastic all the way to the end.

I think it takes at least two viewings to really appreciate it. The second time I watched, I noticed tons of little details and subtleties. And each character seems to have a double life in Twin Peaks as well as deep, complex relationships.

Definitely groundbreaking and way ahead of its time. You keep thinking "They showed this on network television in the 90s?" all the way through.
