Beer thread!

A few months back (april, may?), a friend of mine from work convinced me to head out to the bar with him.  WoW Cafe and Wingery was the place.  I'd never had beer before, so he made it his personal mission to help me find a beer I'd enjoy.  This is something I'd been meaning to do for a while, since sometimes I want to get a little tipsy, without resorting to hard liquor.

So the Beer challenge began.  WoW has a passport system, which has 36 Beer spots.  All of the beer they have on tap, plus 8 seasonal beers.  Complete the passport, get a t-shirt.  Complete it again, get a pewter mug.  Complete it a final time, get $2.00 beer on ANY beer, at any location, any time.

Back then, I couldn't force my way through an entire beer.  Now that I've acclimated to the taste, I'm discovering an entire world of flavors!

So far, I tend to like lighter beers and lagers.  Michelob Ultra, Landshark, Dos XX, Dos XX Amber, Amber Bock, some of the Sam Adam's seasonal brews..

What about you guys?  What beer do you enjoy?

Re: Beer thread!

I like all but one of those you've mentioned.  For you, might I suggest Blue Moon or Stella Artois?  I also like:

New Castle
Guinness
Working my way thru Flying Dog beers
Corona
Tecate
Edit: Shiner Bock (but it tastes odd this side of the Mississippi)

Avoid Hoegaarden at ALL costs!!

Re: Beer thread!

I do enjoy Blue Moon (with the orange slice, of course), but Stella..  it has to be fresh.

I can't stand Guiness, at all.  AT ALL. blegh.

You have to work your way up to it.  It's required at Flogging Molly concerts!  LOL

Re: Beer thread!

If you ever get a chance, try Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat.  It tastes just like fruity pebbles.

Re: Beer thread!

I don't really love beer, but I'll drink it socially. I have learned it's best to drink it fast before it gets warm. I've had Coronas and things like that and also Beck's at Oktoberfest. It's ok. Wouldn't say I enjoy the taste. I wouldn't be opposed to trying more kinds though.

Re: Beer thread!

To sound like a total girl, I could drink a keg of Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss all by myself.  Love that shit.

I drink the whole gambit of imports (Corona, Fosters, Heineken, Guinness), but I stay way from the hoppier drinks.  I stay away from most domestic beers, but have warmed up to a few in recent years.

Get you a set of these if you start trying beers at home.  While on the expensive side, they are great glasses.

Best of luck in your drinking adventures.  There is a LOT of fucking beer choices out there.  We have a pretty cool beer store in Sterling that has a great variety of singles so you can try one of everything before committing to a six or more.  When we visit my wife's sisters, we always go to a pub that has a "passport" thing going on like you mentioned, so we help her with that when we are in town as well.  Pretty fun.

Without condoning... or condemning. I understand.
