Final Fantasy on the DS/GBA

All the FF re-releases in the US have been realigned with the original Japanese numbering, which ends up being very confusing for me. Can someone make me a cheat sheet, or link me to which games I'm looking for?

I'd like very much to play US Final Fantasy III (Locke, Terra, Edgar, etc.) as well as US Final Fantasy II (Cecil, Kain, Rosa, etc.) on my DS. I'd also be interested in the original Final Fantasy. Every time I go to the store to look for games I get confused since I don't really have a reference for the new numbers. I'm sure it's terribly easy but I haven't quite gotten it yet.

So what are the original titles released as on the DS/GBA?

Re: Final Fantasy on the DS/GBA

well, FF III (US) was actually FF VI in Japan.. the one right before FF7.

FF II (US) was actually FFIV in Japan.

Re: Final Fantasy on the DS/GBA

That part I got, but which ones have been re-released in the US and for which platform? In other words, what do I need to buy if I want to play Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, and Final Fantasy III on my DS?

Re: Final Fantasy on the DS/GBA

I don't know if this adds to the confusion, but I had FF1 and FF2 on the same GBA cartridge.  I bought it here in the US and FF1 was fantastic.  It had improved graphics and something like four new "castles" you could try to work your way through.  I was pretty burned out by FF1 so I only got a little into FF2 and sold the game on eBay.  FF3 was just released on the DS and should be easy to find in any retailer (Target).  So that is all I know about FF, it may be wrong, but those were the ones I bought (FF1/2 GBA, considered buying FF3 for DS, but got burned out on FF1/2).

Awesome, thanks! So I can get FF and FF2 on one GBA cart, and FFIII on a DS card.

Yep, but finding FF1/2 may be a little tough, that one has been out for a LONG time.  Long enough to have gone on sale at Toys R Us for $9.99 and shortly thereafter vanish.  But if you look around online inventories (Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears, Wal-Mart) someone may still have a few copies.  eBay is a pretty safe bet too.  FFIII is still being delivered to stores, so that shouldn't be a problem at all.  Good luck.

I can only find one with FF, is this it?

http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-II- … videogames

Only it doesn't have Final Fantasy II.

Re: Final Fantasy on the DS/GBA

I saw at Target tonight, Final Fantasy 6 (3-U.S. - "Terra") for sale as a GameBoyAdvance game.

I saw Final Fantasy 4 (2-U.S. "Cecil") for sale as a DS game. (Scott please confirm this, we saw that, right?)

At least that's what I think I remember seeing.

I'm starting to find myself going to Target if I can't find the games at our local EBgames store.

The ONLY reason I still go to the EBgames here is because we know the manager-lady there (who gives nice hugs). She gave me a deal on a used GameCube for $60 when the REST of the used GCs were being sold for $90.  Me likes her lots.  big_smile

Otherwise I'd be hitting up the Target for availability reasons.  Try seeing what Target's online store has.

Re: Final Fantasy on the DS/GBA

Ok, so Final Fantasy III (Terra, Locke, etc.) is actually a GBA title? And Final Fantasy II (Cecil, Kain, etc.) is a DS game? And Final Fantasy (original Nintendo version) is on a GBA cart with Final Fantasy (Japanese) II, which was not originally released in the US?

I do like that EB Games down there, if they have any of these titles used or new I may try to get them there when I come down.

Re: Final Fantasy on the DS/GBA

Every reference from herein i make about a Final Fantasy game is going to be it's Japanese release number.

I believe FF 1 and 2 are a DS game, but Scott could answer that for sure, since he has it.

But I do swear I saw Final Fantasy 6 (terra, etc) as a GBA game, cause it was on the right side of the huge display case with the other GBA games... then Scott pointed out Final Fantasy 4 (Cecil) on the left side with the other DS games.

This link is the Final Fantasy 1 and 2 that I had.  I personally don't give a fuck about Japan releases, because I live in the US.  FF1/2 are on GBA and were released at least a year or two ago.  They are the ones that were released on the NES and they updated the graphics and added a castle or two.  You got it right in the link.  That is FF1 and 2 on a GBA cartridge.  I don't know, nor care, what release that is from Japan.

They just released FFIII on DS.  You can still find it in the stores.  I don't know, nor care, what number that was in Japan, because we live in the US.  It is pretty obvious that they want Americans to enjoy Final Fantasy in the order 1/2 on GBA then 3 on DS.

When you start getting into international release dates/games, it gets real messy, real fast.

Re: Final Fantasy on the DS/GBA

I think it's best to just leave numbers out completely since they just add confusion.

Let me rephrase the question. I'm looking for these games, right?

If I want to play Final Fantasy (light warriors) I need Dawn of Souls (GBA).

If I want to play Final Fantasy (Cecil, Kain, Rosa, etc.) I need Final Fantasy IV Advance (GBA).

And finally, if I want to play Final Fantasy (Edgar, Terra, Celes, etc.) I need ___________ (fill in the blank).

Keeping numbers and countries out of it was a good idea.  Hope you get what game you want squared away.  Good luck.

Re: Final Fantasy on the DS/GBA

Hmmm... well, I have FFIV(Cecil), and I'm not really all that pleased with it. The translation is MUCH better, but they also made it nut-bustingly stupid-hard. The battles also have slowdown. -_-; Thinking of getting FFV(Faris), as it sounds vaguely MMORPG-ish in that its all about grinding and character ability building. FFVI(Kefka) is supposed to be the best of the three GBA re-releases.

Oh, and FFIII(jap) for the ds, not that great. Oh so pretty, but incredibly slow paced and kinda boring. Battles last like 3 times as long as they should.
