herroh

Hmm...I've been threatening to do a campaign, so I've been wanting to test out DMing with David, Darrin, and Scott.  Small numbers will make me comfortable since I've never done DM'ing before.  Anyhoo. I've been told to post some yackety smack about it here and I guess get some input/ridicule.

Anyways, it's DnD 3.0/3.5 since I have not upgraded to 4.0 and do not plan on it.  I have a bunch of ideas for a great story but I want to wait on that so I can has more players and more time.  This little nuisance I'll have with the DDS (DavidDarrinScott) will be set about 2000 years after the storyline.  Xenir as the world will now be called was once the name of a great elven empire which was decimated after the Event 2000 years ago. Most living things were wiped out and civilizations broke down.  Now races live to survive and most racial hatreds were long forgotten.  Hate is a luxury afforded by those who don't have to worry whether they live to see tomorrow.  The most profitable but hard to master profession is treasure hunting.  But treasure is not all shiny things and trinkets.  Treasure is knowledge and anything that could give a clue to what was known before the Event and how to prevent it and progress is of true value.  Books, inventions, tablets, anything with a shred of information to the past is held in higher regard than gold and diamonds.

That's what I have so far. Oh and I did a little playing around with paint and made a map that I could use and alter with ease. big_smile i think it's cute!

Re: herroh

weeeeeeeeellll....worked on it some more last night, given i ain't got shit to do.

I'm still working on the magic part. Basically gonna just use the shit in the Players Handbook and not allow for extra books and stuff. (Which are cool stuff in my opinion but are too advanced for what I want)  I think most spells are gonna be okay...there might be some schools that don't have any masters so you guys can't learn them (yet >.>)

As far as, say, religion i.e. clerics and paladins, clerics will be allowed and I'll get a list of the gods/goddess still around.  Paladins are not gonna be around because people have yet to progress to that stage in worship.

As far as classes, everything in the player's handbook is kosher, save the paladin and sorcerers I will probably favor you playing than a wizard given the lack of magical education.

David mentioned playing a druid and I'm cool with that too given the state of the world.  I imagine there will be many druish (>.>) people serving the towns far more often than one would see a cleric and a church.

As far as bad guys, I have the idea to just start y'all off with some rival treasure hunters as you guys will begin as treasure hunters. A leader and his pack of goons who give you shit along the way...even try to kill you....for fun...  There is a future villain that you may run across that is some remnant of the Event.

Let's see, playable races.  Elves, dwarves, halflings, humans, gnomes. No orcs or half orcs as they have returned to their homeland years ago.  Elves no longer hold as much stature since the Event since most living peoples believe the elves had something to do with the Event, or at least one.  Many believe that the great empire of Xenir, an elven empire, fell due to the decadence and mismanagement on the part of the elven masters and in turn caused the cataclysmic events that left the world as it is today.  Elves do not live as long as they had before, the oldest one has reached since the Event was 342 years old.  It seems a curse was placed on elves for their part in the Event. Dwarves are not prevalent as they escaped to their mountain homelands but some do live in and around the desert doing merc stuff.  Halfings and gnomes are pretty common along with humans due to the fact that once they don't have progressive interests to keep them busy, they keep busy by fucking day and night.  So to say the least, population has been rising but the progress has not.

As for the landscape, most of Xenir is a desert. To the west is the Hadatian Jungle and then mountains and the volcanic lands of Hades which is where legends say the evil goddess Askanaki resides.  To the northeast, is thick forests where most elves take refuge and the southeast is very dry grasslands where farming is mediocre at best.  The coast is where real survival is, as people have taken to fishing and boating, creating small coastal cities where people are more prosperous.  Humans make the best fishermen, next come half-elves and elves.  Gnomes and halflings don't like riding on the seas very much and dwarves just abhor it.  There have been known orc pirates from Shander, their homeland, that make runs against coastal towns in the south but rarely venture up the eastern coast.

There's more but I just realized I need to go and pay bills and eat lunch with my brothers... let me know what else you're curious about because it sure helps me think of more stuff! big_smile

What's the politic like? A single unified kingdom? City-states? Frontier justice?
Who has the power?

Re: herroh

mmm...no, i don't think so...I have only ready the looking glass wars, Wicked and its sequel, son of a witch, ender's game and inkheart.... I've had the idea of the land for a long time now....and the Event has been played over and over in my head....the setting i have now is something inspired by Desert Punk cuz I want to do something with mercs and treasure hunting...other than that, i'm not sure of the other inspirations, so I'd like to think it's original (it's prolly been done before)
