External Hard Drive Repair

My Seagate 1.5 TB External drive got knocked over and now when connected to power it only beeps softly at me.

I suspect the read arm got knocked out of aliment, but have no real way of knowing what is truly wrong.  My question is does anyone know if it is possible for an external hard drive to be repaired with out costing an arm and a leg?  While I'd also love to have my data back I've come to grips with it being lost if it's impossible to recover.

Re: External Hard Drive Repair

You'd be surprised at what data recovery services can do with broken hard drives, but they start out expensive and go up from there. You can probably request a quote, but most likely it'll cost more than what you value your data to be.

Backups are great smile

Re: External Hard Drive Repair

Yea I requested a quote through Seagate's company at the economy package was 1600$

I guess now I need to go about finding a way to cash in the 5 year limited warranty for a replacement

Oh, well if that's the backup then replace the disk and run another backup.

If you warranty the drive, I wouldn't mention the bit about it being kicked over.

Re: External Hard Drive Repair

I don't plan on mentioning it, and when I say knocked over I don't mean that it feel off the desk.   The cable was pulled too much and it feel from being upright to on it's side.

I'll be calling on Monday to get the whole process started -le sigh-

and I just finished downloading Dark Angel too.

Re: External Hard Drive Repair

Well I know how you feel, our media server has almost 1TB of content on a RAID10 array and then that's backed up to another USB drive nightly.
