intelligence is like a knife

http://blog.cubeofm.com/your-high-iq-wi … ur-startup

excerpt:

We sat there and he continued what we had spoken about. He said: That demonstrates what I mean. The man with the knife did not know how to use that knife. If he had been as trained in knife fighting as I was in hand combat, he would have been able to destroy me. But he had a tool that he felt gave him an advantage, but it's nothing compared to a person who has no tool, but has worked to develop what he has.

Intelligence is like a knife. If you are intelligent, you are at a clear advantage against people who are not intelligent. But if you are intelligent, and another person is not as intelligent, but the other person is willing to train harder than you, the other person will very quickly overtake you in ability.

aaaaand this explains exactly why i feel so completely unfulfilled with my career and life.

i 'should' be far more advanced and successful than i am. But, ive never buckled down and put in the hard work that success requires.

fuck. sad

There is a hint of truth in that, but it also assumes that the one most worthy will get it which is very much not reality.

Re: intelligence is like a knife

looking at this post.. just, wow.

What a difference a year makes. I've moved across the country, advanced my career, have a new car and almost have my new house.

Worthiness is often more than just the attribute being sought after. The most beautiful woman in the world will never be crowned winner in Miss Universe if she never gets the confidence to sign up and walk out on stage.

As Woody Allen once said, "Eighty percent of success is showing up".

It takes more than looks, more than brains and more then talent. It takes the force of will to simply go through the motions and do what is necessary to reach your goals. its hard. its scary. and there will be failure. But the only way to win is to play.

Oh, you're right... i should move back to central Georgia, get a dead end job, drive a busted up 15 year old car and live with a roommate in an apartment complex again.

gotta keep it real, yo. Self improvement makes others uncomfortable. That's why no one should do it.

It makes them uncomfortable because they are weak.

Also, don't believe people when they say "life is short." Life is actually really fucking long, 80 years is pretty close to a century.

Re: intelligence is like a knife

but what is a 'century', when you're on your deathbed and there is only that moment?

Life is short compared to the depth and breadth of this world and the things available to accomplish, know and experience.

Re: intelligence is like a knife

Scott has a talent for going from me wanting to punch him in the face to patting him on the back.

I hate and love you Scott (in the platonic way)
