tl;dr version - I loved it in spite of some awkward storytelling and pacing. Ignore the critics, see it and judge for yourself. And Sinestro is the best thing ever. The guy they got to play him is perfect.
Interesting how the reception to this movie has been. Critics seem to hate it, and the internerds seem to be split in half. I saw it last night and I think that Green Lantern is the best DC Universe movie ever made. Why? Because it's the only DC universe movie ever made.
One of the biggest problems that DC movies have had is that they were always a new "interpretation" of the DC comics. All of the Superman and Batman movies have taken the core ideas of the books and re-worked them into something different. Sometimes it works (Batman, Batman Begins) sometimes it doesn't (Batman & Robin, Superman Returns). Sometimes they manage to create something close to the original, but screw something up for no reason (Superman's Lex Luthor, TDK's Joker).
Green Lantern is the first time that we've gotten a DC movie that doesn't screw with the soul of source material or change random details just because they don't fit into a movie neatly. In some ways, this creates technical problems with the movie (pacing and flow are a bit off, and a lot of the information is superfluous to the core story). But the trade off is that we get a movie that has Guardians and Oa and Kilowog and Hal's family problems, and his best friend, and MOTHERFUCKING Sinestro. If I hadn't seen all that extra world building, I would have left the theater disappointed.
So, yeah. I thought it was great it, Milton (who is a HUGE Green Lantern fan) LOVED it, and Chuck (who is far more critical than I) liked it a lot.

Critics almost unanimously hated Speed Racer too. GL isnt nearly as good a film as Speed Racer was, but the same principle is at work. Green Lantern isn't really a movie for conventional audiences as it actually attempts to emulate the source material.

Just got back from this and thought it was fairly decent too. A good popcorn flick. I didn't go in expecting oscar performances. It is a fun summer comic book movie. The girlfriend and I couldn't figure out why this was so bashed by the critics. I would agree with the pacing being off, but it was by no means a bad movie. Lots of special effects and 3D throughout. For people who didn't know anything about Green Lantern, they did a good job of introducing us to that world. I have no complaints.

I would go see it but I can barely stand looking at the CG for the length of the trailer and can't picture sitting through it's entire runtime.
The costume design really does kill it for me, and if the box office for this isn't HUGE (because WB spent ungodly amounts of money on this thing) I'm sure they will be wishing they had just made a real damn costume.

Unless you have a pathological hatred for all CG, it's not a problem. Some things could look more realistic, but it never shoddy enough to take me out of the experience.
It's not I'm not a huge fan of the textured/fiberoptic look of the costume either, but I reached deep into my reserves of infinite patience and chose to deal with it it in order to enjoy the movie.

It's not that I have a hatred of CG, it's just that with Green Lantern it's seems like it's on par with the Prequel Star Wars
I see this and it just looks like Ryan's head is a pimple the suit is trying to pop.
Not saying the movie isn't enjoyable, but by all indications this is no masterpiece so I'm not going to feel bad missing this one.

Just got back from GL!
i liked it! A lot!
in fact, i think i liked it better than Thor, and i really enjoyed Thor. The exposition didnt bother me in the slightest because i dont mind, ya know, STORY in my movies, especially comic book movies.
The characters were good.
Hal was pretty much just Ryan Reynolds. this not a totally bad thing.
His love interest i found to be annoying and unmemorable.
Hammond was a great villain... very sympathetic and completely understandable as to why he did what he did.
Parallax: fucking awesome.
Seeing Sinestro, Tomah Re, the Guardians, et al, was great and they were all true to form, but i like Asgard better than Oa. Oa seemed kinda dark, rocky and depressing, to be honest.
Also, i loved Hal's car... a 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T *drool* yes, i squealed like a little boy when i saw it, ask Lauren.. lol

Man, you just don't KNOW how accurate that was to the comics. XD

Also, i had trouble keeping track of who the fuck she was, from scene to scene.
Seriously, its like she was a completely new character in every scene the popped up in. I honestly thought she was a new character/actress a few times when she appeared.
