In a move to boost lagging sales, N is dropping the 3DS price from $250 to $170.

I'm not hurt that I paid more; I'm hurt that N has to do this to get people to buy one. The 3DS is an amazing system that keeps doing more. I want it to do well, not sit on shelves.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I will probably still wait till Prof Layton comes out to buy one, but at least it won't cost me as much. Maybe by that time they'll have some different colors and/or system and game bundles to choose from.
The original price point of $250 was just too high for something with such detrimental flaws. After checking out yours and ones in stores, I still am bothered by paying that much for something with such a limited viewing angle. You really have to be completely still and angle the screen just right to enjoy the effect. It is also kind of an ugly, bulky thing with no really good games out. To cost more than a Wii, Xbox, Kindle, and a couple other electronic devices, it just wasn't worth picking up until they came out with the inevitable 3DS part 2 in a smaller, sleaker body that solved the original viewing angle issues and was probably offered at a lesser price point. Even at $170, I still hesitate to buy one with those issues above still holding me back.

The 3DS lineup just isn't interesting, the only game I'd play if I had one would be Ghost Recon Shadow Wars.

For all the criticism aimed at the 3DS lineup no one seems to realize that the list of the DS's big upcoming titles pretty much read "Kirby Mass Attack" and nothing else. So, you've got 12 or so good/great games on the 3DS horizon versus one announced title for the DS. Developers aren't developing for the DS like they used to.
Now, if you want to compare the library of games available RIGHT NOW, then of course the SEVEN-year old DS is going to come out ahead. But since the 3DS is backwards compatible, you can play all the old DS games and shiny new future games as well. If all you want is a retro gaming system to play old games, then by all means stick with your DS.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about it.
"3Ds price drop is cool (and kinda sad--for them), but I still don't want one. Still play my DS (and iPhone/iPad) and, well...fuck 3D." @Greenspeak

LOL, that's funny. I know I will get one, I'm just dragging my feet because the 3DS doesn't blow my mind and I like companies to work the kinks out before I jump in. Case in point, my girlfriend's new computer. It took Apple a couple cycles, but the new MacBook Airs kick serious ass.

The best deal I had seen on one was during the week of thanksgiving, Target had them for $145. Best Buy has them this week for $170 with a $50 giftcard ($120). Can't argue with that. Especially with the new mario brothers and mario kart out now. In for one red and one black.

We now have $110 ($170 with $60 giftcard) at Target. Nice.
