So first of all, I've never been a big fan of phone cases. They added weight and bulk to the phone, and I've always been careful enough anyways that I've never dropped and broken one. But at the same time, I've also been pretty tough on my devices. The paint and rubber edge coating on my BlackBerry wore away from just normal use in a relatively short amount of time. When I got the iPhone 4, I opted for an Invisible Shield on the front and back, and an Apple bumper.
I thought the bumper was fairly nice, but it didn't hold up either. In 6 months, he plastic edges scratched, and the rubber wore away. Plus the frame broke in half at the bottom. It really made me hesitate at dropping another $30 on it or another case. I wanted something that would hold up for the long haul, and that was when I found the Racecase. That was in September, and I held off on buying because the Apple iPhone event was just around the corner. Luckily, the form factor didn't change at all, so I can keep my case if I upgrade to the 4S.
I've always been a fan of machined billet aluminum. It's lightweight, strong, durable, and it looks great. The interior of my TT is trimmed with brushed aluminum accents, which look awesome. And my MacBook Pro is machined out of a solid piece as well. I love how thin and light it is, and absolutely no flex in the frame when you pick it up. And the anodized surface reduces wear and scratches. Feels great to the touch and makes it very nice to use every day.
So I was glad to find a phone case that was manufactured the same way. It's also made in the USA, which is remarkable. It's a two piece snap design, with the top portion CNC'd aluminum and the bottom is what they call a proprietary composite material, which is really just plastic. However it's machined just like the aluminum, and they fit together really well.

It's probably not all aluminum because that might create a sort of farraday cage around the phone, diminishing the signal. As it is, I lose no bars whatsoever with the case on. And of course you can't death grip it either.
Oddly enough it's probably more beautiful inside than it is on the out. You can see the smooth machining marks where the aluminum was milled out, and it has a pocketed design which improves the strength. It's very thin and lightweight. It adds just a little bit of heft to the phone, but it feels great in your hand. The beveled edges make it easy to hold and the smooth texture won't slip. The front edge is raised ever so slightly so the glass won't touch the surface when you lay it face down.
On the bottom piece, it's got a large cutout for the 30-pin connector and the speakers. It should accomodate any Apple cable as well as third party cables. It fits my Peripheral connector in the car no problem, whereas the Apple bumper wouldn't.
On the top, you've got a large recessed hole cut for the headphones, so it should accomodate any headphone jack. For the lock and power buttons, there are smooth round billet buttons embedded in the case that feel great when you use them.
When it fits together, it makes a nice tight fit on the phone. So tight in fact that there isn't room for a rear screen protector. I gotta say I'm really happy with the case so far. Check out more pics below.

Info on the web is very hard to find on this. I did find one video review on YouTube.

$70 is a little steep for a case, but I'll pass this along to the Mrs. as an option. Her's is being delivered via FedEx today. Went out for delivery yesterday, but for some reason the apartment number was left off the address so it stayed on the truck till it could be sorted out.

True. I saw a $100 case the other day that was water proof and all sorts of stuff, but it looked like wrapping your phone in rubber and plastic. No where near as sexy as this aluminum stuff. Nice find.
