Skyrim Skyrim Skyrim Skyrim? Skyrim, Skyrim! Skyrim.
*ahem*
It's as fantastic as everyone is saying. The graphics (on the 360 at least) are a HUGE improvement over Oblivion, but more importantly, they've made the game a whole lot more fun to play in general. It's the first time an Elder Scrolls game has felt "polished" to me.
I'm playing an Orc named Coilrin Gahmorig, and am currently acting as a Mage/Archer. Only got to level 4 last night before I forced myself to stop playing.
Oh, and I found this on reddit this morning. I can't stop laughing at it. XD

This game has its hooks in me in a way that Morrowind and Oblivion never did. Everything feels so much more polished, from graphics to menu interfaces... it's just a LOT more fun to play than the previous games. I'm actually abiding by the law for the first time in a TES game.
I'm up to level 12 now and am a little worried that I'm leveling too fast. I don't want to get over powered by monsters before I get awesome gear. D:
So far the most amusing encounter I've had was over on the far east side of the map. I found a dragon napping on a mountain and frosted him to death with a vengeance. As I happily skip away from the carcass, I discover a destroyed home, still partially on fire. I figure that it must be a casualty of the dragon I just killed and enter to loot what I can look for survivors. I find no survivors, just a conspicuous ring of candles and a man's corpse clutching a roll of paper. I inspect the paper and it's a Scroll of Summon Flame Atronach.

I just read this morning that you can hold the Left Bumper to sprint!
That would've been helpful to know when I was trying to get past those dungeon traps.
Also, after walking all the way from Whiterun to Solitude, I discovered that there's a Horse and Cart vendor in front of all the major cities that will fast travel you to any major city, even if you haven't discovered it yet.
Man, I can't wait for vacation next week so I can put some taproots into the couch and play until my legs atrophy.

360. The laptop isn't powerful enough and I greatly prefer the feel (and analog precision) of the 360 controller over the PS3.

The game is simply fantastic save for the Interface with is awkward at best but it doesn't damper my enjoyment of the game and once mod tools are out it will be fixed 6 ways from sunday.
While I've been primarily playing my Nord, who is a Two Handed Weapon Master fighting for Skyrim's Freedom, I also have a Khajiit Assassin who doesn't give a shit about the war, and a High Elf Mage who is like "Fuck the Nords"
There is so much to get lost in and just explore the rich world. With Mass Effect 3 bumped to 2012 I think Skyrim easily has RPG of the Year, if not GotY in the bag.

Oh hey, it's that game I rented for a week, finished, and haven't thought about since!

So, I proposed to the mercenary I hired and he accepted! I show up at the Temple of Mara to get hitched and he yells "How could you?" and storms out. On the floor of the chapel is the corpse of some dude I hired to lug around loot. He died in a cave halfway across the map, about 12 levels ago.
WTF?
On the plus side, I could reclaim the loot that was left on his corpse!

This is actually real entertaining.

COILRIN GAHMORIG SKYRIM STORY TIME!
So, there's this town in Skyrim called Riften. Within the walls of Riften there exists an orphanage, run by an old woman named Grelod the Kind. Grelod the Kind's name was earned in irony because she is cruel and heartless in the most Dickinsian manner.
In my travels, I stumbled across a child who escaped from the orphange. He was performing a black ritual to summon the Dark Brotherhood (the Assassin's Guild) to put a hit on Grelod the Kind. Though I'm not in the Brotherhood, I accepted because that cunt needs to die.
I arrive at the orphanage and one shot the bitch with lightning, but that seemed way too simple and clean a fate for such a monster. So, I reloaded my save and began to think of what the best way to kill her would be. After careful consideration, I came up with my plan.
1. I cast Soul Trap on Grelod. It does no damage, but is considered an act of aggression, so now she knows that she's being attacked. That's good; I want her to fear.
2. I equip the Mace of Molag Bal. Molag Bal is the Daedric Prince (demon god) of Submission. He gave me his mace after I was accidentally drawn into one of his schemes and forced into doing his bidding. The Mace of Molag Bal drains the targets stamina and magicka (forcing the target to submit) AND it also casts Soul Trap as well.
3. I deliver a powerful blow to the fleeing Grelod, crushing her spine and killing her instantly. Immediately, her soul flies from her body and become trapped in my waiting Soul Gem.
4. I take Grelod's soul and I enchant it into a simple silver ring. The ring fortifies Restoration magic and magic resistance. I name the ring "The Eternal Penance of Grelod the Cruel".
5. I drop the ring on the pulpit at the Temple of Mara in Riften. Where it will be used to heal and protect those in need. For all eternity, Grelod the Kind's twisted black soul will be forced to perform acts of kindness.
I think this is probably my finest achievement in Skyrim. It actually made me feel righteous.
